Japanese manufacturers started exporting the motorcycles to American market in the early 1960’s and won the market from small motorcycles of Europe in the middle of 1960’s. Then Japanese manufacturers developed the large-scale motorcycles and dominated the market in the beginning of the 1970’s. Motorcycle production became the strongest industry of which Japan boasted. In this paper the processes of technological development of the large-scale motorcycles produced by Honda and Kawasaki are discussed. Technical domination of Japan at the motorcycle market had been steady for twenty years, but Harley, the USA manufacturer regained lost market in the after 1990’s, and has been dominating the large-scale market motorcycle not only in the United States but also in Japan. The success of Harley depends on the lifestyle marketing. They sell motorcycles matched well with lifestyle and culture. However, Japanese manufacturers such as HONDA hold a dominant position in the world for their high-quality mass production system and high technology.

 Shipping industry has endeavored to establish the logistics partnership with shippers in two directions. One is composed of the long term transport contract and the medium term contract of affreightment in bulk carrier and tanker shipping markets in order to avoid the sudden and drastic change in free market freight rates, both of which are the transformation of consecutive voyage charter contracts based on the full cost principle including the stable profit. The other is the development of third party logistics, which is the response of liner shipping to logistics strategies of shippers of finished goods and parts in manufacturing and distribution industries. It is certain that the basic stream of logistics partnership has been supported either by the voluntary originality conception in free shipping markets or the policy inducement of government in oligopolistic one. Thus the sufficient condition of logistics partnership has been established by the effort of firm or government. At the same time it is necessary for the market participants to seize the chance of structural changes in shipping life cycles as the necessary condition for building up the logistics partnership. The purpose of this paper is to make clear the necessary and sufficient condition for logistics partnership establishment from the viewpoint of system building and structural change in shipping industry.

組織間発明に着目した組織と発明者の特許出願数の比較

 Products recently need better and more complex technologies than they used to. In addition, companies can not afford to research and develop new technologies or scientific theories because companies face fierce competition. Therefore they need to collaborate with other organizations, including not only other companies but research institutes. However, the collaborations have costs to take over boundaries of organizations. This paper reveals which categories of technologies Japanese companies tend to collaborate in, and the productivity of inventors in organizations. The following facts were obtained. (1) The highest ratios of joint applications between companiess and research institutes are in “chemistry and metallurgy”,“commodities” and“ physics” in that order.( 2) Companies tends to choose research institutes as joint-applicants instead of other companies over collaborating with other companies. (3) The experience of inventors’ joint-applications between companies does not affect inventors’ productivity, but the experience between companies and research institutes does affect their productivity.( 4) In a field where inter-organizational joint inventions provide some advantages to inventors, inventors’ experience of inter-organizational jointinventions tends to their acquisition of experience.

Multinational companies have been establishing regional headquarters like as North- American Headquarters, European Headquarters and (East) Asian Headquarters from a various reasons and purposes. Due to various reasons, we can see various forms and types of regional headquarters. Based on my 23 years experiences as business consultant to Japanese companies who have been investing into Europe and who have already started business in Europe, in this paper I am trying to categorize forms of regional headquarters mainly from capital structure. Through this work, I could identify benefits and issues of each form which affected the choice of forms of the headquarters. In addition to categorizing the forms of headquarters from capital structure, I show here some other possible way of categorizing like as how to manage to get working expenses of the headquarters.

 Supply chain management which consolidates the managerial functions of an enterprise, such as procurement, production and sale between different organizations, is increasingly being recognized as the key business strategy and business model.This article analyzes empirically the information linkages and the structure in the relation between the organizations which form the supply chain management of the logistics industry in Japan, comparing studies conducted by the Ohio State University research group and Michigan State University research group, two schools which lead the way in the American logistics research. It also makes reference to the thinking of Japanese researchers.

SYSTEM DYNAMICS MODELINGAND SIMULATION OF FOOD SUPPLY FOR MPANDA DISTRICT IN TANZANIA

 The Mpanda District in the Rukwa region is one of many areas in Tanzania which for a long time has faced food supply related problems. This paper has analyzed the problem of food supply for Mpanda district in by using system dynamics modeling and simulation analysis methodology. The basic methods and definitions of system dynamics were developed by J. W. Forrester. The main objective, original point and contribution of this study is to introduce the application and use of system dynamics modeling and simulation approach in Tanzania and Africa. To implement the application and use, this study has developed a food supply-analytical tool for Mpanda district, Tanzania. This is an essential component in the programmatic efforts for solving food supply and agricultural production problems to develop an integrated decision support program to assist policy analyses, policy makers, decision makers, regional resource allocation for food supply and agricultural management in the Mpanda district and Tanzania in general. This research facilitates better understanding of the food supply and agricultural production in Mpanda district and other areas in Tanzania. These areas are likely to be impacted in the short and long term by family farm decisions about agricultural production methods. The system dynamics approach is a new methodology for food supply in Tanzania. Most research studies have used other analytical methods, such as econometric and optimization models. Unfortunately the research problems analyzed by econometric and optimization models remain unsolved and offer no promising sustainable solutions. Due to limitations and the merits of system dynamics as compared with other analytical methods, using system dynamics to analyze the food supply problem is a wise choice. For this analysis, the Mpanda system dynamics food supply model (MSDFSM) was developed and simulated. Factors, such as population, agricultural production, and land resources, were modeled and simulated using Vensim, system dynamics computer software, to demonstrate implications through interactions and causative effect of the variables in this study. The conclusions and summary are the results of six cases, divided into three cases of analysis of the Mpanda system dynamics food supply model and the results of three cases of marginal returns of labor and land resources. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of system dynamics modeling and simulation for the food supply in Mpanda district and concludes with policy recommendations beneficial to both policy and decision makers.
