 A thermal cycling test has been conducted for alumina-coated cast iron as well as alumina-coated steel for comparison. The samples were prepared by plasma-spraying alumina on flake graphite cast iron and spheroidal graphite cast iron without an undercoat and with an undercoat of nickel-based self-fluxing alloy or nickel-chromium alloy. The thermal cycling test revealed that the coating on the flake graphite cast iron has good thermal shock resistance and that the undercoating improves the thermal shock resistance appreciably by preventing oxide film formation on the surface of the cast iron substrates.

 As nanotechnology advances, fabrication techniques based on focused ion beams (FIB) are expected to be useful in manufacturing complex microstructures. We developed a micro-manufacturing method with superior micro-assembly capability by employing FIB milling, FIB-assisted deposition, a rotational-type side-entry stage, and a micro-sampling system. After being machined by FIB milling, micro-samples were assembled into a 25-μm-diameter micro universal joint. A 1-μm-diameter micro-joint was also successfully manufactured in the same manner. Results of TEM observation of the interface between the deposited layer and the substrate suggest that FIB-assisted deposition can be applied to the formation of micro-joints in a micro-machine manufacturing process. This micro-manufacturing method is a powerful tool for the fabrication and assembly of micro-machines.

 In present cars, highly effective computer-controlled is used for a large capacity. Various amounts of data are taken from each sensor into “Electronic control unit (ECU)”. And, we are able to take out a part of the ECU data by “On- and Off-Board Diagnostics [OBD-?]”. It is applied to the running analysis of cars this time. As the result, the analysis of the ECU data by obtaining a lot of data at the same time, including the engine data, has greatly been indispensable for the entire grasp. And, in each measurement condition of car, running course and measurement procedure, the running distributions have realistically shown the actual running. The difference of running on four courses in this time has clearly been shown with figures and numerical values respectively.

Optimization of transparent conducting Al-doped zinc oxide filmsprepared by pulsed laser deposition

 Approximately 100-nm-thick Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) films with 100-500 stacking layers have been prepared on glass substrate at 230℃ by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) using a split target divided into AZO (Al2O3 : 1wt.%) and AZO (Al2O3: 2wt.%). Film compositions were adjusted by changing the ratio (trace ratio) of the time required to irradiate each side of the target alternately by an ArF excimer laser (λ= 193nm) or Nd:YAG laser (λ=266,355 and 532nm). As a result, the AZO film with 500 stacking layers deposited by irradiating pulsed laser beam of the wavelength of 193nm at repetition frequency of 2 Hz gave the lowest resistivity of 2.24×10-4Ω・cm under optimized conditions of laser energy density of 1 J/cm2 and trace ratio of AZO (Al2O3:1wt.%) : (Al2O3:2wt.%) = 1 : 4. The surface roughness was 0.69nm and the FWHM of the ZnO(0002) peak was 0.73°. An average transmittance of more than 90% in the visible range were obtained for the AZO films with 500 stacking layers deposited under these optimized conditions, providing useful functionality as TCO films in the visible range.
